Her attorney contacted the agents here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe says it&#39;s about Kessler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judith heard the name.<\/p>\n<p>Her face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe says the transfer isn&#39;t the thing he&#39;s trying to get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse jumped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second voice entered the call.<\/p>\n<p>Dad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSloan, there&#39;s more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agents opened our home safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was inside?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDocuments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat documents?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad sounded shaken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA list of names.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat kind of names?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRead them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agents took it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlowe was already contacting the team.<\/p>\n<p>Within minutes she received a secure scan.<\/p>\n<p>She placed her tablet on Judith&#39;s table.<\/p>\n<p>The page contained fourteen names.<\/p>\n<p>Some I recognized.<\/p>\n<p>Family.<\/p>\n<p>Others I didn&#39;t.<\/p>\n<p>Beside each name was a percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Not trust percentages.<\/p>\n<p>Judith recognized them immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She leaned closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are participation allocations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Havenport?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe underlying settlement pools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlowe said, \u201cDirect beneficial interests?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judith nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat means the trust isn&#39;t where the value ultimately sits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The anonymous message.<\/p>\n<p>THE TRUST WAS NEVER THE REAL ASSET.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the list.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom was a total estimated value.<\/p>\n<p>$61,400,000.<\/p>\n<p>My mouth went dry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSixty-one million?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEstimated,\u201d Judith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat document could be old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The scan showed a handwritten update.<\/p>\n<p>Three months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Mom&#39;s writing.<\/p>\n<p>A line near the bottom read:<\/p>\n<p>R.K. attempting consolidation before Q4 distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Today was October second.<\/p>\n<p>Q4 had begun yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat distribution?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Judith looked at the list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf these pools settled on schedule, a very large payment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow large?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She calculated mentally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly fifteen to twenty million.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlowe&#39;s phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>She answered.<\/p>\n<p>Her expression changed almost immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepeat that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreeze it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She listened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder whose authority?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her eyes moved to me.<\/p>\n<p>She ended the call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe twenty-six-million-dollar rights transfer was withdrawn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relief flickered.<\/p>\n<p>Then vanished when she didn&#39;t look relieved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy Kessler?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom custody?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough counsel, using an emergency fiduciary objection attached to an original document reference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom had stopped the transfer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what\u2019s wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlowe looked at Judith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause three minutes later, a separate instruction was submitted directly to the settlement administrator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judith went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat instruction?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRedirect the Q4 distribution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlowe looked at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorthstar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler hadn&#39;t needed the rights themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Not if he could intercept the money they were about to produce.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere between my mother&#39;s hidden list, Judith&#39;s records, and Grandpa&#39;s letter was the authority needed to stop him before the distribution left the system.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=27659\">Click here to continue reading: PART 12: My Mother Finally Told Me Why She Hid the Originals, but Her Confession Exposed a Last Betrayal Inside Our Own Family<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We reached Maryland shortly before midnight on a federal aircraft that was far less glamorous than movies made such things look.
