protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That answer hurt both of us.<\/p>\n<p>I could see it.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica stepped back.<\/p>\n<p>Then she said something yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Outside, Brandon stopped several feet from his sister.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you tell Mom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are you planning to tell her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica&#39;s voice dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever keeps me out of prison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brandon froze.<\/p>\n<p>So did Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>I leaned toward the finally spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe signature wasn&#39;t the worst thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A car passed behind them on the road.<\/p>\n<p>For several seconds nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was worse?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>She closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone accessed your medical information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach turned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica looked at Brandon.<\/p>\n<p>His face told me the answer before she said his name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrandon did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He shouted, \u201cThat&#39;s a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica stepped farther away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou gave David the hospital details.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got them from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou knew first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I didn&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They were accusing each other so quickly that neither had time to construct a polished story.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas leaned toward the intercom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrandon, how did you learn Eleanor had been hospitalized?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brandon stared at him through the camera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStay out of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas repeated the question.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon didn&#39;t answer.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe told us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That changed everything again.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe had said Jessica informed the family.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica now said Brandon had been the original source.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrandon,\u201d I said, \u201chow did you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked toward his SUV.<\/p>\n<p>Then at Jessica.<\/p>\n<p>Then at the gate.<\/p>\n<p>For the first
