Says if M won\u2019t help, she will find someone who will.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared at Emily.<\/p>\n<p>She did not speak.<\/p>\n<p>He turned the next page.<\/p>\n<p>Empty.<\/p>\n<p>Then several ordinary work notes.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing about Laura.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing about Emily.<\/p>\n<p>Until one final entry three months later.<\/p>\n<p>L says it is handled.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>Emily felt cold spread through her arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>She looked at the page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel reached for his phone.<\/p>\n<p>Emily stopped him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho are you calling?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His head snapped toward her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a disturbing sentence in a dead woman\u2019s notebook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd a documented request to follow you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo report concern, maybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do more than sit here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emily stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not saying ignore it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m saying preserve everything. Make copies. Build the timeline.
