me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is one more thing about Julian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t know about the threat to your father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he found the photograph.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My chest tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo months before your wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn one of Cross\u2019s old files.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he do with it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kept it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sienna\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he ever mention it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why does it matter?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause after you left the airport, I checked Julian\u2019s office before I flew out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe photograph was gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A coldness moved through me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCross?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nineteen-year-old version of me, photographed without my knowledge, had survived nearly two decades in someone else\u2019s files.<\/p>\n<p>My father had once received it as a warning.<\/p>\n<p>Julian found it.<\/p>\n<p>And now it was missing.<\/p>\n<p>Sienna leaned forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClara, somebody still has it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Outside the glass wall, Evelyn saw my expression and stood.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Sienna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy should I care about an old photograph?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause there was writing on the back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe threat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot on Julian\u2019s copy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I felt my pulse quicken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was written on his?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sienna answered quietly.<\/p>\n<p>A newer sentence.<\/p>\n<p>In Julian\u2019s handwriting.<\/p>\n<p>If her father could be frightened, so can she.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a
