day, Greg met with prosecutors and disclosed the signed agreement formally.

His attorney was furious that he had discussed it with us first.

Not because confession was wrong.

Because sequence matters legally.

Greg accepted the criticism.

The agreement strengthened the case against him.

It also strengthened the broader case.

Westbridge documents showed the lender accepted repayment rights against a property Greg did not own.

Internal notes showed employees knew ownership belonged to contradictory.”

“It is.”

Law often is.

Actions can worsen culpability and improve mitigation simultaneously.

A person can be more responsible and more honest at the same time.

That described Greg perfectly.

Meanwhile, the quiet-title case on the house moved faster than expected.

Victor’s receiver disclaimed any interest.

Shaw Development did not contest.

Walter’s draft deed was formally established as uncompleted and legally ineffective.

The old cloud on title could finally be removed.

Emily received the court order.

She brought it to me.

“Clean title.”

I held the paper.

Strangely, I felt almost nothing.

Months own property challenge also progressed.

The pending sale contract was voided after evidence showed authorization relied on disputed capacity documentation and family consent obtained under misleading circumstances.

Her home remained hers.

No buyer could claim rights.

She celebrated by making terrible cookies.

We ate them anyway.

Mrs. Alvarez’s case proved harder.

Her property had already transferred twice.

A court froze further changes.

Compensation claims began.

Returning the exact home futures.

Margaret chose not to return to her old property either.

Victor’s company held complicated title.

She decided to live in an independent senior community near Lydia.

Her decision.

Not Silver Pines.

Not imposed.

She laughed when I asked why.

“I like not mowing.”

Walter would have called that laziness.

I called it earned.

Lydia entered a cooperation agreement.

She still faced review for old corporate acts.

No immunity.

No sainthood.

She accepted that.

Paul Frost too.

Frost Strategic Partners began dissolution proceedings.

Employees uninvolved in wrongdoing were moved or terminated.

Victims filed civil claims.

The machine was coming apart unevenly.

Halpern’s medical license was suspended temporarily pending a full hearing.

His notebook became important in dozens of competency reviews.

Some legitimate assessments remained valid.

Others were reopened.

That complexity mattered.

Not every person he evaluated had been wrongfully judged competent or incompetent.

The answer was not to reverse everything automatically.

It was to review contaminated decisions independently.

Daniel said this repeatedly.

I finally appreciated his obsession with precision.

Then came Greg’s sentencing memorandum.

His lawyer showed him a draft.

Childhood history.

Business pressures.

Manipulation by Victor.

Cooperation.

Restitution.

Remorse.

Greg crossed out one paragraph.

“What?” because her lawyer sent a victim-notification copy.

She did not submit a sentencing letter.

Neither did I.

Greg kept his boundary.

No emotional lobbying.

Then prosecutors asked whether I wished to give a victim-impact statement.

I was a victim of some conduct.

Not the trust theft itself.

The falsified capacity strategy.

The attempted house coercion.

I considered it.

Greg told me:

“You should.”

“Even if it hurts
