I failed at that difference.<\/p>\n<p>My chest tightened.<\/p>\n<p>There it was.<\/p>\n<p>Not an excuse.<\/p>\n<p>An apology.<\/p>\n<p>Years before I needed it.<\/p>\n<p>The letter ended:<\/p>\n<p>If the deed ever frightens you, remember this: I never gave Victor the house. I only gave him enough rope to show me what he intended to do.<\/p>\n<p>Typical Walter.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>Please do not let my secrets teach Greg that secrets are noble. Mine were expensive.<\/p>\n<p>I handed the letter to Greg.<\/p>\n<p>He read it.<\/p>\n<p>Then again.<\/p>\n<p>His face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout the kind of mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greg looked toward the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kept things too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he told you eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly through paper after death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019d hate that we agree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greg laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Then his phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>A message from his attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Something had been found in Westbridge\u2019s receivership files.<\/p>\n<p>A signed agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Greg\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>Dated eight months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>He read it.<\/p>\n<p>His face went white.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He handed me the phone.<\/p>\n<p>The document appeared to authorize Westbridge to collect repayment from proceeds of my house sale.<\/p>\n<p>His signature was genuine.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the forged records.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Victor\u2019s manipulations.<\/p>\n<p>This one was real.<\/p>\n<p>Greg stared at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI signed that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I already knew.<\/p>\n<p>The question was whether this was one more confession he had forgotten\u2014or the final proof that, despite everything done to manipulate him, my son had willingly pledged money from a home he did not own.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=26990\">Click here to continue reading: PART 30: Greg\u2019s Genuine Signature Removed His Last Excuse, and the Truth He Finally Told Emily Cost Him More Than Any Court Sentence Could<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel brought the document to Mr. Lawson\u2019s office the next morning.
