drained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chuck finally spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis proves nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel turned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#39;t say it her.<\/p>\n<p>By the time he finished, eight admissions had become eleven.<\/p>\n<p>Seven properties had subsequently sold.<\/p>\n<p>Five went through companies linked to Victor Shaw.<\/p>\n<p>Three owners had disputed their placements.<\/p>\n<p>Two had challenged financial documents.<\/p>\n<p>One had died before the dispute was resolved.<\/p>\n<p>I felt sick.<\/p>\n<p>This was no longer about someone trying to steal my home.<\/p>\n<p>It was a system.<\/p>\n<p>Marlene stared at the paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought we were helping families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you ever ask the residents?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She met my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you were helping them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her face crumpled.<\/p>\n<p>No answer came.<\/p>\n<p>Greg arrived later with his attorney.<\/p>\n<p>When he saw Marlene, he stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe says you called her appeared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaller ID can be manipulated,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n<p>The timing bothered him.<\/p>\n<p>It bothered me too.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had deliberately sent Marlene to my immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you use as collateral?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnswer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy interest in Dad&#39;s estate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat interest?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walter had left Greg investments, not the house.<\/p>\n<p>Greg breathed nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emily ended the call.<\/p>\n<p>She stood perfectly still.<\/p>\n<p>I moved toward her.<\/p>\n<p>She stepped away.<\/p>\n<p>Not from me.<\/p>\n<p>From everyone.<\/p>\n<p>For
