Business records. He wanted the authorities to get the Kane evidence.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;And the next morning?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He died before we met.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I stood because sitting had become impossible.<\/p>\n<p>My son had accepted money from Kane.<\/p>\n<p>He had argued with Richard the night before Richard died.<\/p>\n<p>Richard had planned to expose everything the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>None of that proved Michael caused his death.<\/p>\n<p>But it proved the history I had been given was incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>I walked toward the window.<\/p>\n<p>My reflection looked unfamiliar.<\/p>\n<p>Behind me, Thomas said, &quot;Margaret, we need to turn these records over to the investigators.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Yes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;And you should have no direct contact with Michael for now.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Yes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>My phone vibrated.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>Not Kane.<\/p>\n<p>A text.<\/p>\n<p>I opened it.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Harris, my name is David Cole. I worked for Robert Kane thirteen years ago.
