Rebecca.

Then the files.

Three generations of plans meant to protect people by deciding for them.

“What do we do with the archives?” I asked.

Claire Stone answered.

“Give them to people whose job is evidence.”

Not heirs.

Not secret custodians.

Institutions.

Courts.

Regulators.

Imperfect systems.

But systems where no single family got to decide.

My phone buzzed.

A federal update.

Liam’s server review had produced the final missing piece in my original case.

The chemical analysis of the tea.

The jar I preserved that first night had finally been matched to Julian’s prescription and his purchase history.

Dosage estimate.

Strong enough to produce prolonged unconsciousness.

Potentially dangerous combined with alcohol or other sedatives.

Beside it, investigators had recovered a message Julian sent Liam before bringing me the cup.

JULIAN: Tonight.

LIAM: You certain?

JULIAN: She’ll drink it.

LIAM: And if she doesn’t?

JULIAN: She trusts me.

I stared at the final line.

That was the foundation of the entire plan.

Not forged signatures.

Not money.

Not access.

Trust.

He had believed I would swallow because he handed it to me.

He had believed I would sleep because he told me to.

He had believed I would remain inside the version of reality he created because marriage made his voice familiar.

He was almost right.

I looked at my father.

At Chloe.

At Claire Stone.

At the recorder my mother left behind.

Then at the evidence from the tea I never truly drank.

The story had begun with Julian believing unconsciousness would give him my life.

Now, for the first time, every person who built that assumption was losing control of the story.

Including him.

Click here to continue reading: PART 33: When the Charges Became Public, Julian Tried One Last Time to Reach Me—Not
