created a trust for my father tied to Richard’s death.

Then Thomas died.

My father died.

Margaret inherited Thomas’s papers.

And now Margaret’s name appeared on the same page.

“What if the Beneficiary Page isn’t ownership of Richard’s system?” I asked.

“What else?”

“A kill nodded.

“Or evidence.”

“Or money.”

“Or all three.”

My phone vibrated.

A message from Margaret.

Do not return home.

Nothing else.

I called immediately.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

Eleanor called Boston police.

No response at Margaret’s house.

Officers entered.

Margaret was gone.

No sign of forced entry.

Her phone sat on the kitchen counter.

On the dining table lay the black notebook she father hid at the cemetery suddenly seemed less important than whatever the words trigger instrument meant.

Then Marcus swore quietly.

“What?”

He turned his laptop toward us.

A transfer had just been initiated.

Not millions.

Hundreds of millions.

From dormant Sterling-linked accounts.

And the authorization code
