Not entirely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My fingers tightened around the edge of the desk.<\/p>\n<p>Liam swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJulian is running because his father is alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither Eleanor nor I moved.<\/p>\n<p>Liam continued.<\/p>\n<p>Richard had staged his death four years earlier after investigators began approaching his financial network.<\/p>\n<p>The funeral had happened.<\/p>\n<p>The death had not.<\/p>\n<p>Julian took control of the visible companies while Richard disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Father and son continued moving money through hidden accounts.<\/p>\n<p>For a time, their arrangement worked.<\/p>\n<p>Then Julian became greedy.<\/p>\n<p>He started diverting money away from Richard.<\/p>\n<p>He created structures Richard did not control.<\/p>\n<p>When Richard discovered the theft, the alliance between them collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>According to Liam, Richard wanted Julian exposed.<\/p>\n<p>Julian wanted something more permanent.<\/p>\n<p>Then Liam looked directly into the camera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why he needed you, Claire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My throat tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe needed someone outside the Sterling operation who could be made responsible for everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video ended.<\/p>\n<p>No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Then my phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>I answered.<\/p>\n<p>A man\u2019s voice said, \u201cNow you understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I had heard that voice at holidays, birthdays, dinners.<\/p>\n<p>Four years earlier, I had heard it for what I believed was the last time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stood slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is Julian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn a plane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwitzerland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Eleanor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are you helping me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard\u2019s answer came without hesitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not helping you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounded more truthful than anything Julian had said all night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why call?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Julian believes you are the only person who can connect the documents, the trust, the forged signatures, and the sedative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean for me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard became quiet.<\/p>\n<p>When he answered, his voice had lost every trace of the charming older man I remembered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means my son will do whatever he thinks is necessary to make sure you cannot tell your story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The call ended.<\/p>\n<p>I remained standing with the phone against my ear.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve hours earlier, I had believed my greatest humiliation would be discovering that my husband loved another woman.<\/p>\n<p>Now the affair seemed almost ordinary.<\/p>\n<p>Julian had tried to drug me.<\/p>\n<p>He had stolen millions.<\/p>\n<p>He had forged my identity.<\/p>\n<p>He had manufactured my voice.<\/p>\n<p>He had built an entire criminal history around my name.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere beyond the Atlantic, he believed distance had made him safe.<\/p>\n<p>I put the phone down.<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor watched me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you want to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since Julian carried that cup of tea upstairs, the answer came without fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe prove every piece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the photograph of Richard alive.<\/p>\n<p>Then at Julian\u2019s forged version of my signature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we make sure Julian learns the difference between controlling a story and surviving the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=26051\">Click here to continue reading: PART 5: The First Crack in Julian\u2019s Perfect Escape Appeared When Chloe Called Me From Zurich and Begged Me Not to Hang Up<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I gripped the edge of my father\u2019s desk. \u201cI never confessed to anything.\u201d \u201cI know.\u201d \u201cThen whose voice is it?\u201d \u201cYours.\u201d \u201cThat doesn\u2019t make sense.\u201d \u201cMarcus thinks the file has &hellip;
