surveys.<\/p>\n<p>Daddy\u2019s expired access easement.<\/p>\n<p>Boundary maps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen Travis gave Voss the easement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is what he now says.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The altered modern copy had originated from material Travis supplied.<\/p>\n<p>Voss removed the termination page\u2014or someone at Morrow did.<\/p>\n<p>Another link.<\/p>\n<p>Travis had not merely been recruited into Voss\u2019s land plan.<\/p>\n<p>He brought Daddy\u2019s documents to him.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning, I drove to the property again.<\/p>\n<p>No deputy this time inside the house, though security remained nearby.<\/p>\n<p>I carried the photograph from Carol\u2019s box.<\/p>\n<p>Daddy and me at the county fair.<\/p>\n<p>I was maybe fourteen.<\/p>\n<p>He looked exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>I looked sunburned and happy.<\/p>\n<p>I put it back on his desk.<\/p>\n<p>The wooden box remained evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The photograph did not need to.<\/p>\n<p>Then I opened Daddy\u2019s Carol.<\/p>\n<p>Warren.<\/p>\n<p>Monica.<\/p>\n<p>Voss.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>None of them had been carried helplessly from one act to the next.<\/p>\n<p>They chose the next act because admitting the previous one felt too expensive.<\/p>\n<p>I closed the notebook.<\/p>\n<p>That was their pattern.<\/p>\n<p>It did not have to become mine.<\/p>\n<p>I did not have to preserve a marriage because
