Ethan\u2019s birth time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat wasn\u2019t the original stop time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone at the table went quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe watch stopped around three in the afternoon when Daniel had his first attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I felt suddenly cold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who reset it to 10:14?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked toward Ethan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We knew that.<\/p>\n<p>But Richard added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe reset it the night Ethan was born.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ethan leaned forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My memory shifted.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan newborn.<\/p>\n<p>David exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>Richard arriving late.<\/p>\n<p>The watch.<\/p>\n<p>I had forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d Ethan asked.<\/p>\n<p>Richard\u2019s expression softened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour father took the watch off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wore it during my birth?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked at you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard smiled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen he pulled out the crown and stopped it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 10:14.<\/p>\n<p>I covered my mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan stared at the moving second hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Dad intentionally stopped time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>I knew before he spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Because David had told me years later.<\/p>\n<p>I had forgotten the exact wording.<\/p>\n<p>Richard remembered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said every man in the family kept using that watch to remember the moment somebody almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ethan\u2019s eyes filled.<\/p>\n<p>Richard touched the watch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid said he wanted it to remember the moment somebody arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p>The watch had not been broken.<\/p>\n<p>Not then.<\/p>\n<p>David had stopped it deliberately.<\/p>\n<p>Turning an object inherited through death toward birth.<\/p>\n<p>That made repairing it feel different.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Ethan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI changed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He understood immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou made it run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think Dad would mind?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ethan picked up the watch.<\/p>\n<p>The second hand crossed twelve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe already changed what it meant once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObjects can survive new meanings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounded like something sisters say after twelve silent years.<\/p>\n<p>I looked around the table.<\/p>\n<p>Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan.<\/p>\n<p>People who had hurt one another.<\/p>\n<p>People who had disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Returned.<\/p>\n<p>Changed.<\/p>\n<p>Not erased.<\/p>\n<p>The watch kept moving.<\/p>\n<p>Then Ethan\u2019s phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>He read the message.<\/p>\n<p>Can I call?<\/p>\n<p>Ethan looked at the three questions saved on his phone.<\/p>\n<p>Did he ask for help?<\/p>\n<p>Yes.<\/p>\n<p>Am I the right person?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>What happens if I wait ten minutes?<\/p>\n<p>He smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Excused himself.<\/p>\n<p>And called.<\/p>\n<p>Because boundaries did not mean withholding care.<\/p>\n<p>They meant learning the difference between care freely offered and control disguised as love.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=25556\">Click here to continue reading: PART 27: Thanksgiving Forced Three Generations Into One Room, Where the Hardest Conversation Began Without Any Crisis to Blame<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marcus\u2019s weekend visit began badly.
