Hart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Again, expected.<\/p>\n<p>Then the trooper added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd current photographs of Clara Hart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris lifted the radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow current?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara had entered police protection today.<\/p>\n<p>Which meant Reed had located her before she surrendered.<\/p>\n<p>Anna&#39;s face drained.<\/p>\n<p>Then the trooper continued:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#39;s another subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnknown female. Approximately eighteen. Looks like the Carter twins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>Maya stared at Lily.<\/p>\n<p>Lily stared back.<\/p>\n<p>I felt cold spread through my body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris looked at the radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSend the image.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>He opened it.<\/p>\n<p>Then slowly turned the screen toward us.<\/p>\n<p>The photograph showed a young woman walking outside a grocery store.<\/p>\n<p>Brown hair.<\/p>\n<p>Same eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Same face shape.<\/p>\n<p>Not identical.<\/p>\n<p>But close enough to stop my heart.<\/p>\n<p>Written beneath the image:<\/p>\n<p>CARTER GIRL \u2014 CONFIRM IDENTITY.<\/p>\n<p>Maya whispered:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Harris.<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#39;t answer.<\/p>\n<p>But I remembered the two patient numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The seventeen altered cases.<\/p>\n<p>The years of swapped identities.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time, another possibility appeared.<\/p>\n<p>Not another daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Something connected to the same night.<\/p>\n<p>Something Reed had been trying to identify even now.<\/p>\n<p>Harris enlarged the date stamp.<\/p>\n<p>The photograph had been taken forty-eight hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Then he enlarged the location.<\/p>\n<p>Anna recognized it first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat&#39;s Wilmington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara&#39;s city.<\/p>\n<p>The same place she had surrendered.<\/p>\n<p>Maya looked at Anna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes your mother know her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna shook her head slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>I answered.<\/p>\n<p>A woman&#39;s voice spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Older.<\/p>\n<p>Unfamiliar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRebecca Carter?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#39;t know me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is Margaret Ellis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked toward the ambulance disappearing at the end of the street.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret was already on her way to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The voice continued:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just met the woman pretending to be me.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=24531\">Click here to continue reading: PART 13: The Real Margaret Ellis Said Reed Had Used Her Name Before, and the Stranger We Trusted Had Taken Maya\u2019s Evidence With Her<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maya was already moving toward the door.
