Refused interview.<\/p>\n<p>Grace looked surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI forgot that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is G.H.?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#39;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom knew?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApparently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is it in my file?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grace looked closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe connected to the original placement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca read the next line.<\/p>\n<p>G.H. says Ruth was not acting alone.<\/p>\n<p>My pulse increased.<\/p>\n<p>We had already known Harlan helped.<\/p>\n<p>But Carol knew that.<\/p>\n<p>So G.H. must have meant someone else.<\/p>\n<p>Another notation:<\/p>\n<p>Will only speak to Rebecca herself.<\/p>\n<p>My daughter went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wrote that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhoever G.H. is refused Mom but agreed to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApparently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn&#39;t Mom tell me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one needed to answer.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Then flipped the page.<\/p>\n<p>A phone number.<\/p>\n<p>No name.<\/p>\n<p>No address.<\/p>\n<p>Dated 2008.<\/p>\n<p>She pulled out her phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#39;s probably disconnected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She dialed anyway.<\/p>\n<p>One ring.<\/p>\n<p>Two.<\/p>\n<p>Then someone answered.<\/p>\n<p>An elderly man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca straightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay I speak to G.H.?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is Rebecca Miller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The silence changed.<\/p>\n<p>The man inhaled sharply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wondered whether Carol would ever tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe didn&#39;t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is George Harlan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarlan?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca put the call on speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow are you related to Father James Harlan?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man answered quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was my brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would make you\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLouise\u2019s brother too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anna gripped the table.<\/p>\n<p>Another uncle.<\/p>\n<p>One nobody had mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca asked:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is your name in my adoption file?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>George was silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I was there the night Ruth decided who would raise you.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=24239\">Click here to continue reading: PART 24: George Harlan Had Witnessed the Decision Before Rebecca\u2019s Birth, and His Account Revealed Carol Nearly Stopped the Adoption Before Ruth Forced Her Hand<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We drove back to Millfield the next morning.
