Mint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMint will take over everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo did Julian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed before I could stop myself.<\/p>\n<p>Mom did too.<\/p>\n<p>The laughter felt strange.<\/p>\n<p>Then necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Three days later, workers built a narrow herb bed beside the outdoor kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Mom chose every plant.<\/p>\n<p>While we were arranging pots, Harrison arrived holding an envelope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA petition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom\u2019s expression tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Julian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough his attorney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He handed it to me.<\/p>\n<p>Julian was seeking access to certain personal property still inside the house.<\/p>\n<p>Reasonable on its face.<\/p>\n<p>But the list included one item that was not his.<\/p>\n<p>A locked gray file cabinet from the office.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s upstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harrison nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not open it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Julian specifically identifying it means there\u2019s a reason he wants it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khloe came outside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat cabinet?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one from his office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJulian never let me touch that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was enough.<\/p>\n<p>We called Ruiz.<\/p>\n<p>A warrant followed.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators opened the cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Inside were ordinary contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Receipts.<\/p>\n<p>Copies of passports.<\/p>\n<p>Medical forms.<\/p>\n<p>Trust documents.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in the bottom drawer, they found a folder labeled MB.<\/p>\n<p>Martha Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>Mom stood beside me when Ruiz called with the preliminary inventory.<\/p>\n<p>Copies of her signature.<\/p>\n<p>Samples cut from Christmas cards.<\/p>\n<p>Bank forms.<\/p>\n<p>Medical correspondence.<\/p>\n<p>A photograph of her driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>And a typed draft petition seeking emergency guardianship.<\/p>\n<p>It was almost complete.<\/p>\n<p>Only one section had been left blank.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed guardian.<\/p>\n<p>I did not need to ask whose name was intended.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz told us anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Julian Carter.<\/p>\n<p>Mom sat down very slowly.<\/p>\n<p>He had not merely wanted her money.<\/p>\n<p>He had been preparing paperwork that could have given him authority over where she lived, what she spent, who managed her accounts, and possibly who had access to her.<\/p>\n<p>The outdoor kitchen went silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then Mom looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you hadn\u2019t come home\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She did not finish.<\/p>\n<p>She did not need to.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=23932\">Click here to continue reading: PART 10: The Guardianship Draft Revealed Julian\u2019s Endgame, but Khloe\u2019s Old Messages Showed Someone Else Had Been Helping Him Prepare It<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Samuel Vance had treated Mom for almost twelve years.
