Rebecca read that line twice.<\/p>\n
Anna looked devastated.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou asked Margaret to find me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRuth stopped her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carol says she will tell Walter herself if I cannot. She promised today.<\/p>\n
The date was March 26.<\/p>\n
Two days before Margaret\u2019s office visit.<\/p>\n
Three days before Margaret went to Ruth\u2019s house.<\/p>\n
Carol had promised Anna too.<\/p>\n
The next sentence:<\/p>\n
I believe her because she is the only person here who seems more frightened by this than I am.<\/p>\n
I sat back.<\/p>\n
Carol had not been calmly stealing a family.<\/p>\n
She had been terrified by what she was helping create.<\/p>\n
Still responsible.<\/p>\n
Still lying.<\/p>\n
Still choosing silence.<\/p>\n
