You just liked your outcome better.<\/p>\n<p>That one hurt because it contained a sliver of truth wrapped around something poisonous.<\/p>\n<p>I had benefited from Mom&#39;s interference without knowing it.<\/p>\n<p>But benefit did not create consent.<\/p>\n<p>I typed nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Then Marcus sent a photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Three banker boxes inside a motel room.<\/p>\n<p>PRICE TRUST.<\/p>\n<p>ROBERT.<\/p>\n<p>The third box label was finally visible.<\/p>\n<p>SARAH.<\/p>\n<p>Under the photo:<\/p>\n<p>$100,000 and all of this disappears.<\/p>\n<p>Dad read it.<\/p>\n<p>His face went rigid.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Send it to the detective.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I did.<\/p>\n<p>Within thirty seconds, Detective Cole called.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Do not respond.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I won&#39;t.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Do you recognize the motel?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Yes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&#39;re sending officers.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Dad looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Will they arrest him?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I don&#39;t know.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The detective heard.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;That depends on what officers find and what evidence is verified.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I appreciated the caution.<\/p>\n<p>Facts before conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>We waited.<\/p>\n<p>Ten minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel called from the station and told us her report was filed.<\/p>\n<p>I explained Marcus&#39;s demand.<\/p>\n<p>She went quiet.<\/p>\n<p>Then said, &quot;I&#39;m done.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What does that mean?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I gave them everything.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>She sounded calmer than I had heard her in two days.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Accounts. Messages. LLC documents. The identity issue. Storage records.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Dad asked, &quot;Where are the kids?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;With my sister.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Good.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Rachel lowered her voice.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I told the police I think Marcus has access to the children&#39;s Social Security numbers.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Good.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>A knock hit the front door.<\/p>\n<p>Dad and I both froze.<\/p>\n<p>He looked through the side window.<\/p>\n<p>Two uniformed officers.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened.<\/p>\n<p>I opened the door.<\/p>\n<p>One officer asked whether I was Sarah Turner.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Yes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He held a property receipt.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We recovered several boxes from the motel room.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Dad exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Marcus?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The officer hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He wasn&#39;t there when officers arrived.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>My heart sank.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Where is he?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We don&#39;t know.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Was the room registered to him?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;No.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Who?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The officer looked at his notes.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Helen Turner.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Dad&#39;s face went white.<\/p>\n<p>Mom had rented the room.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Was she there?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;No.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The officers found the boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Clothing.<\/p>\n<p>Cash.<\/p>\n<p>A laptop.<\/p>\n<p>But no Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>No Mom.<\/p>\n<p>The phone registered to the room had been unplugged.<\/p>\n<p>Dad sat down.<\/p>\n<p>I asked about the boxes.<\/p>\n<p>They would be held temporarily because of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The officer said the detective would coordinate access or copies.<\/p>\n<p>Before leaving, he added something.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There was also an envelope taped under a desk.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What envelope?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He checked his notes.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It had your father&#39;s name on it.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Dad stood.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What was inside?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;A key.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To what?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The officer didn&#39;t know.<\/p>\n<p>Attached to the key was a small paper tag.<\/p>\n<p>One handwritten number.<\/p>\n<p>314.<\/p>\n<p>Dad stared.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I know that number.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I turned.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>His voice dropped.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Richard Vale&#39;s old body shop.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What about it?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Unit 314.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He rented workshop bays by number.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>I remembered the hit-and-run.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus&#39;s damaged car.<\/p>\n<p>The first secret Mom paid Richard to bury.<\/p>\n<p>Dad whispered, &quot;Whatever started all this may still be there.&quot;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=20341\">Click here to continue reading: PART 10: Unit 314 Still Held Marcus&#8217;s Damaged Car, and Hidden Inside It Was Proof My Mother Had Lied About the Crash<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elaine stayed on the phone while we walked back into the storage unit.
