No new entities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course there was.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel reached into the same drawer.<\/p>\n<p>This time he removed a smaller envelope.<\/p>\n<p>It was not addressed to me.<\/p>\n<p>Across the front was David\u2019s full name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA copy of a letter your mother sent your husband after their private meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My heartbeat quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I read it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel slid it across the desk.<\/p>\n<p>I removed the copy.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was brief.<\/p>\n<p>My mother told David she knew about the loans.<\/p>\n<p>She knew about Jason.<\/p>\n<p>She knew her property had appeared on financial documents without authorization.<\/p>\n<p>And she warned him that if he ever attempted to use me or my inheritance to repair the damage, she had made arrangements to ensure I learned everything.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom was one final handwritten sentence.<\/p>\n<p>David had underlined it.<\/p>\n<p>Twice.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the ink.<\/p>\n<p>My husband had known.<\/p>\n<p>Not suspected.<\/p>\n<p>Known.<\/p>\n<p>He had walked into our kitchen that morning knowing my mother had anticipated exactly what he was doing.<\/p>\n<p>My phone vibrated.<\/p>\n<p>David.<\/p>\n<p>I let it ring.<\/p>\n<p>A message appeared.<\/p>\n<p>We need to talk before you believe whatever Mercer shows you.<\/p>\n<p>I read it twice.<\/p>\n<p>Then another message arrived.<\/p>\n<p>There are things about your mother you don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>He had seen my expression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I placed the phone on the desk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe says there are things about my mother I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas stopped packing his files.<\/p>\n<p>Neither man spoke.<\/p>\n<p>A new fear entered the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked toward the closed office door.<\/p>\n<p>Then back at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah, before you go home, there is one more file you need to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat file?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He opened the bottom drawer.<\/p>\n<p>This one required a key.<\/p>\n<p>From inside, he removed a photograph.<\/p>\n<p>It showed David standing outside my mother\u2019s building.<\/p>\n<p>Beside him was Jason.<\/p>\n<p>The date stamped in the corner was two weeks before my mother died.<\/p>\n<p>And standing between them was a man I had never seen before.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel tapped the stranger\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been trying to identify him for six months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the photograph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause three days after this picture was taken, someone tried again to borrow against your mother\u2019s assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=19473\">Click here to continue reading: PART 4: I Returned Home With Proof My Husband Had Lied, but the First Confession Came From the Person We Blamed Most<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I left the study with my mother\u2019s folder pressed against my side.
