No business address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa whispered, \u201cYou said Evelyn owned it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caroline looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvelyn who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dario opened the door.<\/p>\n<p>This time Marcus did not move.<\/p>\n<p>Neither did anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>He stepped onto the porch.<\/p>\n<p>A police cruiser turned onto the street.<\/p>\n<p>Dario saw it.<\/p>\n<p>He came back inside and shut the door.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody commented.<\/p>\n<p>The officer who had taken my earlier report entered several minutes later with another officer.<\/p>\n<p>The next hour became a sequence of statements.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline showed them the loan agreement.<\/p>\n<p>I denied signing it.<\/p>\n<p>Mom denied signing the vehicle authorization.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa admitted signing one version of my name.<\/p>\n<p>Nico explained the practice pages.<\/p>\n<p>Dario repeatedly insisted everything was a misunderstanding between family members and private investors.<\/p>\n<p>Then one officer asked him for identification.<\/p>\n<p>Dario reached into his jacket.<\/p>\n<p>The white envelope slipped out.<\/p>\n<p>It hit the floor.<\/p>\n<p>Several papers slid across the hardwood.<\/p>\n<p>No one moved at first.<\/p>\n<p>Then I saw my name.<\/p>\n<p>Not on a lease.<\/p>\n<p>Not on a loan.<\/p>\n<p>On a photocopy of a passport application.<\/p>\n<p>My photograph had been attached.<\/p>\n<p>The birth date was mine.<\/p>\n<p>The address was mine.<\/p>\n<p>But the emergency contact was not anyone I knew.<\/p>\n<p>Another sheet lay upside down.<\/p>\n<p>The officer turned it over.<\/p>\n<p>A bank letter.<\/p>\n<p>Account holder: Stephen Hale.<\/p>\n<p>A bank I had never used.<\/p>\n<p>Dario stared at the papers.<\/p>\n<p>So did I.<\/p>\n<p>The officer looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs this your account?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you open it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline whispered, \u201cOh my God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were three more sheets in the envelope.<\/p>\n<p>One was a copy of my driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>One was a utility bill.<\/p>\n<p>The last was a statement from the unfamiliar bank.<\/p>\n<p>The balance was just over thirty-one thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The officer read the transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline\u2019s twenty-five thousand.<\/p>\n<p>Several smaller deposits.<\/p>\n<p>Then outgoing transfers.<\/p>\n<p>One yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>One that morning.<\/p>\n<p>Both to an account belonging to Evelyn Price.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa sat down.<\/p>\n<p>The officer looked at Dario.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is Evelyn Price?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dario said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>The officer repeated the question.<\/p>\n<p>Still nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Then Nico spoke from behind his mother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every head turned.<\/p>\n<p>He swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s Dad\u2019s sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melissa looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nico\u2019s eyes stayed on Dario.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou told Mom she died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dario closed his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>And I understood that the second ticket was only one piece of a much older lie.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=18644\">Click here to continue reading: PART 7: Nico\u2019s Memory Exposed a Family Secret Dario Had Buried for Years, and the Missing Money Finally Began to Trace a Clear Path<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The woman did not knock immediately.
