them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine whispered the name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStephen Gell\u2019s brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody had mentioned a brother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is he?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid Gell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan searched.<\/p>\n<p>Former Mercer Ridge infrastructure director.<\/p>\n<p>Employed fourteen years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Departed after a confidential dispute.<\/p>\n<p>My memory opened.<\/p>\n<p>David.<\/p>\n<p>Brilliant.<\/p>\n<p>Arrogant.<\/p>\n<p>Fired after bypassing security controls.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur had intervened at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Asked me not to destroy his career.<\/p>\n<p>I agreed to a quiet resignation.<\/p>\n<p>The voice continued through Voss\u2019s call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArthur promised he would protect us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Us.<\/p>\n<p>Not me.<\/p>\n<p>Not himself.<\/p>\n<p>Us.<\/p>\n<p>Then the connection vanished.<\/p>\n<p>The cyber investigator called immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re evacuating the data center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFire suppression alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat system can flood the server floor with inert gas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone is inside, they could suffocate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police were seven minutes away.<\/p>\n<p>A live facility camera flickered back.<\/p>\n<p>One figure moved between server racks.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>The second figure was tied to a chair.<\/p>\n<p>Gray hair.<\/p>\n<p>Glasses.<\/p>\n<p>Warren Beckett.<\/p>\n<p>The first figure turned toward the camera.<\/p>\n<p>Even with the poor image, I recognized him.<\/p>\n<p>David Gell.<\/p>\n<p>He lifted one hand.<\/p>\n<p>Then the feed went
