If anything happens to me later, do not assume this incident proves somebody tried before. That would be false, and I refuse to leave Sarah with a lie.<\/p>\n
Emily felt an unexpected respect for him.<\/p>\n
Thomas had anticipated exactly the false conclusion they had almost reached.<\/p>\n
He had documented his own misconduct so his death would not transform it into evidence against someone else.<\/p>\n
The final paragraph was addressed to Claire.<\/p>\n
People in this family confuse secrecy with strength. Don\u2019t inherit that from us.<\/p>\n
Claire stopped reading.<\/p>\n
Mark looked down.<\/p>\n
Emily thought of Leo.<\/p>\n
Then Claire said, \u201cThere\u2019s one more thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
She turned the letter over.<\/p>\n
Thomas had written a final note on the back.<\/p>\n
