folder.

FINAL.

Inside was a single audio file.

Date:

The morning of Dad's crash.

File name:

FOR ELENA.

I stared at the screen.

Dad had recorded one final message for me before any of this happened.

Priya looked at me.

“Do you want privacy?”

“No.”

My children stood beside me.

Robert remained several feet back.

Ethan and Rebecca were under supervision in another room.

I pressed play.

Dad's voice filled the lab.

“Elena, if this reaches you, then I failed to clean up a mess I helped create.”

My throat tightened.

“I need you to understand one thing before you hear anything else.”

A pause.

“I was wrong to keep you ignorant.”

My eyes burned.

“I told myself I was protecting you.”

Around me, nobody moved.

“It was arrogance.”

Dad exhaled.

“You had a right to know what touched your life.”

I covered my mouth.

The sentence I had needed all day.

From the one person who started the pattern.

Then Dad continued.

“Whatever Robert has done, whatever Margaret has done, whatever I have done—do not inherit our fear.”

I closed my eyes.

“Tell the truth.”

A pause.

“Then let people live with what belongs to them.”

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

I looked at Robert.

Then my children.

Then the open archive.

Dad had left me no instructions about revenge.

No command to protect the family name.

No demand to save the house.

Only truth.

Priya touched the keyboard.

“We can preserve everything.”

I nodded.

“Do it.”

And with that decision, every secret our family had spent decades protecting became evidence.

<a
