reached backward instead.<\/p>\n<p>For me.<\/p>\n<p>I took her hand.<\/p>\n<p>Behind us, Thomas lay beside Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of us stood a woman returning from the dead because our family had finally begun choosing truth over protection.<\/p>\n<p>Then Rebecca looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEleanor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We had never met.<\/p>\n<p>Yet she knew me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas gave me something before he died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I almost laughed from exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis wedding ring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She opened her palm.<\/p>\n<p>A plain silver band rested there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said you would understand what to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I did not.<\/p>\n<p>Not yet.<\/p>\n<p>Then I noticed the inside.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas had scratched numbers into his ring exactly as Arthur had done.<\/p>\n<p>Another coded message.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah saw them too.<\/p>\n<p>Her expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad left another clue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca shook
