Accounts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you thought you were entitled?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father helped create it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith stolen money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian&#39;s face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe also lost everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he stole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Victor and Robert turned on him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert did not destroy Thomas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#39;t know that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd there it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice became bitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody thinks Robert was decent and Thomas was poison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harrison interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis historical argument does not change current conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think none of it matters?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think your present-day documents matter more to your present-day legal exposure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian laughed without humor.<\/p>\n<p>Then he looked toward Mom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never wanted you blamed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet my name is everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#39;t create all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich parts did you create?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Mom waited.<\/p>\n<p>Finally he said, \u201cThe commercial lease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khloe closed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Mom did not move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou lied to me about the insurance papers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe loan guarantee?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI prepared it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you forge my signature?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked toward the gate where Elaine had disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Mom nodded.<\/p>\n<p>She understood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe monthly money?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKhloe started that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My sister flinched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe old savings?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian looked down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI moved it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBriarstone?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cControlled it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A long silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElaine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There.<\/p>\n<p>At last.<\/p>\n<p>Direct.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison recorded the statement in his notes.<\/p>\n<p>Julian saw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want a lawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stepped away.<\/p>\n<p>But before leaving the row, he stopped beside Khloe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can fix some of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTomorrow&#39;s hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Martha appears and says she never authorized the filing, the trust petition collapses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harrison answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian looked at Mom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Elaine loses the path to control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom narrowed her eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you want me to testify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy help us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#39;m not helping you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His face hardened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#39;m stopping my mother before she buries me with everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then he walked away toward the road.<\/p>\n<p>The facility manager watched him go.<\/p>\n<p>Dana began repacking documents.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison called another attorney specializing in trust litigation.<\/p>\n<p>We needed representation immediately for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Mom sat beside me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEleven million dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat much money caused all this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople caused this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She nodded.<\/p>\n<p>Then she smiled faintly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour father would&#39;ve liked that answer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>But Dad had also hidden things.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone had.<\/p>\n<p>My phone rang.<\/p>\n<p>Company security.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Cho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administrative account Melissa Carter used accessed more than travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour archived tax returns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything downloaded?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignature pages. Compensation statements.
