Some handwritten notes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I gripped the edge of the table.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel asked, \u201cWas there a phone?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you access it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I opened my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about the other man?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reyes paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found photographs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf Dennis?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found photographs of several people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMrs. Brooks, I need you to prepare yourself. This appears to involve more than the withdrawals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked toward Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you find?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA file with your name on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I almost laughed from disbelief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInside are hospital schedules, property records, copies of your signatures and photographs taken over several months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brian heard that from the lobby.<\/p>\n<p>He appeared in the doorway.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s also a document titled \u2018Phase Two.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel finally asked, \u201cWhat is Phase Two?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why mention it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause your client\u2019s life insurance policy is attached to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brian stepped into the room.<\/p>\n<p>I could see panic building in him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does it say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reyes heard him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Brooks?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should probably sit down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m fine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d I said quietly. \u201cYou\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither was I.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe document isn\u2019t detailed. It appears to be a list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat kind of list?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDates. Locations.
