They expected you to become legally powerless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo now they know you can testify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room became completely still.<\/p>\n<p>Harris took a pen and wrote a question on a pad.<\/p>\n<p>WHO ARE THEY?<\/p>\n<p>I asked.<\/p>\n<p>My father did not answer.<\/p>\n<p>Instead he whispered, \u201cThey know you\u2019re alive, Claire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The call ended.<\/p>\n<p>Within minutes, Harris had officers escort me back to the house.<\/p>\n<p>Two patrol cars followed.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing looked disturbed.<\/p>\n<p>The curtains were closed.<\/p>\n<p>The kitchen was empty.<\/p>\n<p>Then Harris stopped beside the coffee machine.<\/p>\n<p>A white envelope rested on the counter.<\/p>\n<p>My name was written across the front.<\/p>\n<p>I had never seen it before.<\/p>\n<p>Harris opened it with gloves.<\/p>\n<p>Inside was a photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Me.<\/p>\n<p>Standing in my backyard that morning.<\/p>\n<p>The image had been taken only hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>On the reverse were five words.<\/p>\n<p>YOU WERE NEVER ALONE.<\/p>\n<p>Harris immediately ordered another sweep.<\/p>\n<p>They found a hidden camera near the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Then another upstairs.<\/p>\n<p>These were new.<\/p>\n<p>They were not part of Derek\u2019s original surveillance system.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had entered after his arrest and installed replacements.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had continued watching me after the man I thought responsible was already behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Harris looked at the tiny camera in the evidence bag.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaire, pack nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not staying here tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For once, I did not argue.<\/p>\n<p>Because Derek had not created the nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>He had only opened the door to it.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere beyond my house, beyond Natalie, beyond Dr. Evans, beyond even my supposedly dead father, other people were still watching.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=11048\">Click here to continue reading: PART 5: A Safe House, a Missing Detective File, and the First Proof That Someone Inside the Investigation Was Feeding Them Information<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The blue folder transformed the investigation overnight.
