He was terrified something would happen to you too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Vivian know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened to it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom\u2019s voice became cautious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWilliam told me years later that the trust still existed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I turned toward Alyssa.<\/p>\n<p>We were both thinking the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s records.<\/p>\n<p>Vivian moving money.<\/p>\n<p>Accounts.<\/p>\n<p>I asked Mom, \u201cHow much was in it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt first, not much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd later?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWilliam added to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the call, we searched Daniel\u2019s folder again.<\/p>\n<p>One bank statement contained an account number ending in 4417.<\/p>\n<p>Another custodial account linked to Alyssa ended in 4417 after a transfer conversion.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa followed the numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Money from Dad\u2019s accounts had moved into an account bearing her name.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps it had not begun as Dad\u2019s ordinary account.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it had been mine.<\/p>\n<p>We called Mr. Bennett.<\/p>\n<p>He came that evening.<\/p>\n<p>He examined the records for nearly an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, he removed his glasses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need the original trust documents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you find them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas Dad\u2019s estate supposed to include this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the trust remained valid, it would not necessarily pass through the estate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means if William created an irrevocable or separately administered trust for you, those assets may have legally belonged to the trust, not to William personally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa stared at the bank records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Mom transferred them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not know that yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer signature is here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know she moved funds. We do not yet know their legal source.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA day or two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting.<\/p>\n<p>But this time, the delay was investigation, not cowardice.<\/p>\n<p>I could tolerate that.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett stood.<\/p>\n<p>Then stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWilliam mentioned a trust once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral years before he died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat he had made a serious mistake involving money intended for Candace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat mistake?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did not explain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said he was trying to repair it before involving her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I laughed bitterly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course he was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett looked uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe may have believed\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what he believed. He always believed he needed time to fix things before telling me they were broken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody contradicted me.<\/p>\n<p>The following afternoon, Mr. Bennett called.<\/p>\n<p>He had located the original trust.<\/p>\n<p>I drove to his office with Alyssa.<\/p>\n<p>The document was older than I was.<\/p>\n<p>Dad and Mom created it after Andrew died.<\/p>\n<p>Beneficiary: Candace Harper.<\/p>\n<p>The assets were intended for education, housing, and long-term security.<\/p>\n<p>Dad later added investments.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I turned sixteen, the trust had become substantial.<\/p>\n<p>Then, during the year Vivian claimed Mom relapsed, withdrawals began.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Mr. Bennett.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho authorized them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He turned the signature page.<\/p>\n<p>Two trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Dad.<\/p>\n<p>And after a later amendment\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Vivian.<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa whispered, \u201cOh no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The transfers in Daniel\u2019s folder were real.<\/p>\n<p>Money intended for me had been moved.<\/p>\n<p>Some went into Alyssa\u2019s custodial account.<\/p>\n<p>Some to Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>Some elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much is missing?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett named an amount that made me stare at him.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of thousands in today\u2019s value.<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad knew?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEventually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on these records, not until much later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought of Dad telling Bennett he had made a serious financial mistake involving me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he restore it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow partially?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe appears to have replaced a significant amount using his own assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich explains the estate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad had left me the majority not only because he failed me emotionally.<\/p>\n<p>He had been repairing money that should have belonged to me all along.<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa whispered, \u201cMom stole from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett corrected her carefully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to distinguish unauthorized transfer, breach of fiduciary duty, and theft. I would not use a criminal term until the records are fully reviewed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I appreciated his precision.<\/p>\n<p>But emotionally, the distinction felt thin.<\/p>\n<p>Then he pulled out one final statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a larger problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot all the missing funds went to Vivian or Daniel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to a series of transfers.<\/p>\n<p>A recipient I did not recognize.<\/p>\n<p>Horizon Educational Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m investigating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa stared at the dates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese continued after Dad discovered Mom\u2019s other lies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked closer.<\/p>\n<p>One transfer occurred after I had already moved to Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>And another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVivian couldn\u2019t have done all these.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I pointed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was removed as trustee here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who authorized the later transfers?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He turned the page.<\/p>\n<p>Dad\u2019s signature.<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>William Harper.<\/p>\n<p>My father.<\/p>\n<p>After discovering Vivian had misused the trust, Dad himself continued moving money out of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bennett\u2019s expression was grave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, the financial secret did not point toward Vivian.<\/p>\n<p>It pointed directly at Dad.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=10484\">Click here to continue reading: PART 14: Dad\u2019s Signature Appeared on Transfers From the Trust He Created for Me, and Following the Money Led Us to Someone I Never Expected<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first surveillance report was dated three months before my sixteenth birthday.
