I knew about the plan to create financial distress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you know about Jenna?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot at first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd when you learned?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told Elliot to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you didn\u2019t go to police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I understood that failure intimately now.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing and acting were different things.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>She had the right to apologize.<\/p>\n<p>I had no obligation to make it easier.<\/p>\n<p>Chen asked, \u201cWhere would Elliot go now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is one place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA private airfield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth of Millbrook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlane?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElliot keeps access to a chartered aircraft through Crestline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was running.<\/p>\n<p>The threats had failed.<\/p>\n<p>The forged trust had failed.<\/p>\n<p>The company fire had failed.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah had defected.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick was cooperating.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot was leaving.<\/p>\n<p>Police rushed toward the airfield.<\/p>\n<p>For twenty minutes, we waited.<\/p>\n<p>Then confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>A plane had departed eleven minutes earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Flight plan listed Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Dad swore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan they stop it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuthorities are coordinating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I watched the tracking screen.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft moved south.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, Elliot was no longer circling us.<\/p>\n<p>He was moving away.<\/p>\n<p>Then the aircraft changed direction.<\/p>\n<p>Chen frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is it turning?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plane began heading east.<\/p>\n<p>No longer toward Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the city.<\/p>\n<p>Dad looked at the map.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is east?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jason, still on secure video, answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe regional airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the plane passed the route toward it.<\/p>\n<p>Then another possibility appeared.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett Industrial headquarters lay almost directly beneath the new path.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not escaping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chen stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft descended.<\/p>\n<p>Too quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Air traffic control tried to contact the pilot.<\/p>\n<p>No response.<\/p>\n<p>Dad whispered, \u201cWhat is he doing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then Sarah, still connected remotely, said one word.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDecoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElliot isn\u2019t on that plane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chen froze.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has used remote flight systems before for demonstration projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft was another distraction.<\/p>\n<p>A dangerous one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen where is Elliot?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah looked at Dad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he believes everything is lost, there\u2019s only one person he\u2019ll blame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad\u2019s face changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The county detention facility holding Marcus Cole immediately went into lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>But when Chen called, the answer was worse.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus was not there.<\/p>\n<p>He had been transferred twenty minutes earlier after a forged federal transport order reached the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had taken him.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot had not been running.<\/p>\n<p>He had been collecting the last man who knew everything.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insightdrama.com\/?p=10336\">Click here to continue reading: PART 18: Elliot Took Marcus to the Place Their Fathers\u2019 Crimes Began, and Their Recorded Argument Finally Exposed Who Ordered the Briarwood Plan<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The photograph of Jason filled Detective Chen\u2019s phone.
