So did the attorney and the officer.<\/p>\n<p>I kept my voice steady.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did you have information about Dad\u2019s assets?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patrick stopped answering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy were you trying to separate me from him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJenna\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t understand the pressure I was under.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Dad.<\/p>\n<p>For years Patrick had taught me that his pressure explained my pain.<\/p>\n<p>Not anymore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is my car?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The question seemed to surprise him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother has it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes she know it\u2019s mine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe thinks you agreed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course she did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell her she didn\u2019t receive a gift.
